On a night that was a pitchers duel and 8 scoreless innings on both sides, it was the ninth inning that provided all the fireworks. The Daytona Cubs managed to score the games first run of the night in the top half of the ninth off of Mike Woldarczyk, but Blake Parker could not save the game tonight for the Cubbies.
Parker, who recorded his 6th save of the season in the first game of the series walked Pedro Powell to lead off the ninth who would also swipe his 5th stolen base of the year. John Matulia laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Powell on third with one out giving way to Ryan Royster. Big Red wasted no time taking a pitch to deep center field that tied the ballgame at 1 with an ribi double.
An intentional walk to Hector Gimenez followed by a swinging strikeout of Matt Fields set the stage for Nevin Ashley. Down in the count 0-2 Ashley hit a ball hard up the middle and the skipper waved Royster around third for the game winning run, sliding into home ahead of the tag.
The Devil Rays walk-off winners for the second time this week and now have tied the series with Daytona at a game a piece. The series finale is tomorrow night with a 6pm first pitch. You can hear the game on the Devil Rays radio network starting at 5:45 with the Bud Light pre-game show.
