David Price will make his second start on Wednesday, May 28th as the Vero Beach Devil Rays travel to Tradition Field to face the St. Lucie Mets and Pedro Martinez.
You can hear the game live on the Devil Rays radio network. I will make a rare road trip to broadcast the game with two premiere pitchers. A veteran in Martinez and a future all-star in David Price.
Martinez, who has spent some time recently in the Dominican Republic with his father who has fallen ill is scheduled to join the Mets in New York on June 3rd. However, a tune up in the Florida State League comes first and you can be a part of all the action.
6:45 Bud Light pre-game show with a 7pm first pitch. Thanks for tuning in as this is shaping up to be a classic matchup.

The Price is Right
The long awaited debut for David Price was delayed a bit further on Thursday night thanks to an hour and thirty five minute rain delay. However, that did not stop the hard throwing left hander from making an impressive start. Not one for many words, Price said in the Bud Light pre-game show that he just wanted to throw pitches. He felt comfortable, the shoulder was ready to go and he pitched 5 strong innings, scattering just 3 hits, walking one and striking out 4.
The Devil Rays offensively had several chances to score runs, but they managed only 2 thanks to a two out 2 rbi single off the bat of Joey Callender. Those two runs were all David Price and the Devil Rays needed.
There were plenty of media in attendance to watch the debut of David Price, the overall number one selection in last June's draft. How long with Price sport a Vero Beach jersey? Talks of a move to Montgomery are already being heard.
One thing is for certain with the Tampa Bay Rays. They have done a terrific job in building on young arms within their farm system and grooming them into the big leagues.
Same two teams tomorrow night for game two of the four game series. Vero Beach remains 6 games back of the Cardinals because Palm Beach knocked off the Miracle 4-3 in the battle of two first place teams in the Florida State League. 6:45 Bud Light pre-game show for game two.

8:30 Start?
We are currently scheduled for an 8:30 first pitch. Tarp is coming off as we speak and I have audio of David Price. Not the greatest interview, David had to get ready.
Rain Slowing Down
The percentage of getting this game in is starting to increase by the minute. The rain has let up considerably and there is a big window of opportunity to get this game in. As of 7:20 we are still a go.
David Price Debut Under Rain Delay
Just wanted to update everyone that we are currently receiving a good soaking in Vero Beach. I am currently scheduled to take to the airwaves at 6:50 but that could change due to the weather.
Keep checking for updates.

One Run Difference
The road woes continue for the Devil Rays, this time at Roger Dean stadium against the Palm Beach Cardinals. Vero Beach trailed the first place Cards by 5 games heading into the three game series and have fallen back to 7 after a pair of one run losses.
The Devil Rays lost a 1-0 lead in the late innings on Thursday night and a 4-1 lead on Friday. Not sure what it is about the road, but the ball club has only posted 5 wins this season. However, it seems that Vero Beach has been in about 90% of those games and have come up just short on the winning end.
Tonight marks the conclusion of the three game series against the Cardinals and a win would put the Devil Rays 6 back before heading to Tampa, in which they will face the Yankees in a four game series.
Vero Beach is currently 0-8 in games played at Roger Dean stadium both against the Cardinals and the Hammerheads. You can follow the game while listening to the call of the Cardinals broadcast. Our next call will be next Thursday when the 2007 Florida State League Champions the Clearwater Threshers come to town.

Runs Hard to Come By
Back at home and wins starting to pile up once again. Not sure what it is about the road games and the lack of victories, but home sweet home is where it's at. The Devil Rays returned to Holman on Monday to face the Mets for three. After a 3 hour and 36 minute marathon, Vero Beach broke a 0-0 tie with a walk off single in the bottom of the 13th for a 1-0 victory.
Now if I told you that in the first two games Vero Beach scored only two runs combined you would surely think they lost both games. Not the case. Two shutouts thanks to quality pitching not only from the starters Mann and Rollins, but the bullpen as well. Back to back 1-0 victories and the Devil Rays have improved to 6-0 on the season against the struggling Mets.
St. Lucie has now been held scoreless in 26 innings and have fallen to 8-30 on the season. Vero Beach remains in the thick of things. Just 5 games back which happens to be the total amount of wins away from Holman.
Tonight the Devil Rays go for the sweep over the Mets before heading south to face the Cardinals at Roger Dean stadium. A huge series looms, but business needs to be finished at home tonight before the focus can shift to Palm Beach.

Beantown Here I Come!
With the recent 4 game road trip in full swing, I am taking the opportunity to head north to Boston for the weekend with my wife. Hopefully when I return home the Devil Rays will have gone 3-1 on the trip.
The road woes continued on Wednesday night against the Lakeland Flying Tigers as Vero Beach lost the opener 8-4. As a matter of fact every ball game on Wednesday was won by the west division team.
The Cardinals got beat up by Dunedin so Vero remains 5 games back in the east. The Devil Rays have only managed 4 road victories on the season in which half of those have come at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie against the Mets.
Speaking of the Mets, our next broadcast on the Devil Rays radio network will be Monday when St. Lucie comes to town for three. The Treasure Coast cup continues it's play in which Vero Beach has a 4 game stranglehold on the Mets. Best of 20 meetings during the regular season will determine the winner for the 2008 Treasure Coast cup. Last year's winner was indeed the Devil Rays.
That's my time, keep a close eye on the box scores and I look forward to bringing you the call again come Monday. 6:45 Bud Light pre-game show.

The Devil Rays made quite an impression on the Blue Jays tonight, possibly making a statement to the west. I know it's early, but it's fun to talk about. Vero Beach jumped all over Kenny Rodriquez, the starter for Dunedin with 6 runs in the second inning and 3 more in the third.
Home runs by both Matt Fields and Ryan Royster is something that fans of the Columbus Catfish were used to last year and the hope is that the home run power from 2007 transfers here in Vero Beach.
Fields hit the longest ball I have seen here at Holman stadium. A shot that literally cleared the scoreboard in left center field. Royster followed one inning later with his third of the season, in which he had not cleared the fences since the second game of the year. Fields is now tied for the FSL home run lead with 6.
Oh by the way, Jeremy Hellickson pitched another quality outing tonight. Six innings along with 5 strikeouts bringing his total to 47 on the season, which is good for a first place tie in the FSL.
Same two teams tomorrow afternoon in Vero Beach. 12:45 Bud Light pre-game show.

Back in Black
Remember you're mother telling you not to fix something if it is not broken? Well maybe that idea applies to what the Devil Rays have going here at Holman stadium. Vero Beach decided to go to the black jerseys last night and picked up a walk off victory so why not go for it again tonight?
Indeed that's exactly what they decided to do. I spoke with JT Hall before the game and he sort of chuckled when I asked about the jerseys. The question is whether or not the ball club comes out tomorrow night against the Blue Jays sporting the perfect 2 for 2 black jerseys.
Tonights win was a special one. Not only did the Devil Rays take the series against the Cardinals, but Heath Rollins picked up his first win of the season. Not to mention this was his first start in front of the home crowd here at Holman. Rollins went 8 strong innings giving up just one run, a home run to the second batter he faced. At one point Rollins sent down 9 straight Cardinal batters and 15 of the last 16 that he faced.
Neal Frontz closed out the ninth inning and remains perfect in save opportunities now 4 for 4. Tomorrow begins the first series against a team from the west in the FSL. Dunedin is in town for four with a 6pm first pitch. You can catch the call starting at 5:45 with the Bud Light pre-game show.

Walking Off Into The Night
It was the black jerserys. It had to be. Earlier in the clubhouse the players decided to wear the black jerseys in hopes of changing their luck. I say stick with the black. 5-4 walk off winners in the ninth thanks to Ryan Royster's infield single that knocked in Walton with the game winning run.
Neil started the inning with a lead off double, the 6th double of the night between both ball clubs. This marks the first win over the Cardinals this season in 5 tries. Hopefully this sparks a little momentum.
It definitely showed in the hit column as the Devil Rays posted 12 hits, 3 by JT Hall and Delarosa.
6:45 Bud Light pre-game show tomorrow for the rubber match. Friday night baseball with the best team in the FSL playing here at Holman. However, on this night, the better team belonged to Vero Beach.

Homestand
What seemed like an eternity lasted just a week, but the Devil Rays are finally back on the air. Another six game road trip is in the books and unfortunately Vero Beach went 1-5 once again. Not sure of why the struggles away from Holman stadium, but now that the team is back at home, hopefully the wins will start to pile up again.
One bright spot about the road trip though. The Devil Rays finally got that monkey off their back and won a game in Brevard. Vero Beach lost all ten games last season at Space Coast stadium, but finally got a win this past Sunday.
Unfortunately the Palm Beach Cardinals continued their hot hitting last night in a 5-2 victory. Chuck Tiffany made his Vero Beach debut and pitched two scoreless innings while giving up just one hit and striking out two.
Back at the park tonight for the middle of three and then the Blue Jays are in for four over the weekend. This all part of a seven game homestand, the longest of the season thus far. $1 beer tonight with the Bud Light pre-game show starting at 6:45. I'll talk to you on the air.
